The HigherBar Standard

Raise the bar on what you eat.

Scan a barcode or paste an ingredient list. We run it through the ten published checks of the HigherBar Standard and show every result, sources included. It meets the bar or it doesn't, and you see exactly why.

Free. No account. No scores or grades, just every check in full.

Three ways to raise the bar.

Scan the barcode, paste the label, or look up a food that never had one.

Scan a barcode

Point your camera at the package, or at a restaurant menu. The label is checked live.

Hold us to it

The bar is published. So is everything behind it.

The Standard, in full

Ten criteria, the reasoning behind each, and a version number. It is our own bar, not a safety or health claim, and every word of it is public.

Read the Standard

Seven government registries

Every ingredient record carries its published status in each one, dated and linked to the source:

  • United States (FDA)
  • European Union (EFSA)
  • United Kingdom (FSA)
  • Codex Alimentarius (JECFA)
  • Japan (CAA)
  • Australia & New Zealand (FSANZ)
  • Canada (Health Canada)

Where the numbers come from

Labels come from Kroger's published listings and our own catalog. Whole-food nutrition comes from USDA FoodData Central. When a label is missing a value, we report the gap instead of filling it.

Think we got one wrong?

Send us the product and what looks off. We re-run the checks and correct the record if it needs it.
