What It Is

This is a thiol, or mercaptan, a class of sulfur compounds known for being intensely aromatic even in tiny amounts. It's used in food as a flavoring agent at correspondingly low levels, and the FDA lists it as approved for that purpose.

Regulatory Record

What each registry publishes about (+/-)-1-phenylethylmercaptan.

Every row comes from a published regulator source, linked so you can read it yourself. "Prohibited" means a regulator has affirmatively banned it; "not authorized" means it has never been cleared for that use there. The two are not the same thing, so we never collapse them.
